AHOSKIE, NC – William Richard Jernigan, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at his home.

A native of Bertie County, Mr. Jernigan was born on November 13, 1940 to the late William Hunter and Mildred Robertson Jernigan in Windsor, NC. Richard worked as an Inspector for NC Department of Agriculture until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking in his workshop, being outdoors, gardening, and farming. Richard loved his family and a big heart for all animals. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his two daughters, Kim Lassiter and her husband Johnnie of Winton, and Michelle Brinkley and her husband Steve of Greenville; their mother, Rachel Smith, four grandsons, John Harrell, David Harrell, Adam Brinkley and his wife Rachel, Travis Brinkley and his wife Courtney; great-granddaughter, Peyton Brinkley; sister, Ruth Jernigan Goff; nephew, Jason Fleck and wife Lori; great-nephew, Bowen; great-niece, Allie; along with his friends and pets.

Due to weather, a celebration of life service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Garrett~Sykes Funeral Service,  Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Ricky Freeman officiating.
