Virginia Hagans Weeks, age 97, of Scotland Neck, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh.

Virginia was born on September 30, 1923 to James and Murhl Hagans.  She was one of seven children that grew up in a loving family on St. John’s Street in Tarboro.  She graduated from Tarboro High School and attended secretarial school. Virginia started her career as an Office Manager and Administrative Assistant to the President of Carolina Telephone and Telegraph.  On January 29, 1949 she married James Weeks and in 1954 they moved to Scotland Neck and raised their family of two daughters. Virginia was a member of Dawson Baptist Church and for all of her 97 years she exhibited the fruits of the spirit.  Her strong Christian faith guided her every action.  Among her most favorite prayers was an Irish blessing which she carried in her wallet at all times.  She leaves us with this sentiment:  “May God grant you always…A sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, a sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you, laughter to cheer you, faithful friends near you, and whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you.”

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, James Owen Weeks; her mother, Murhl Tooley Hagans; her father, James Thomas Hagans; her sisters, Lib Fisher, Pat Page, and Margie Wilson; her brothers, Jim and Jack Hagans; and her son-in-law, Skip Peterson.

Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Linda Weeks Peterson of Raleigh and Kimberly Weeks Braxton and husband GW of Sunset Beach; her sister, Anne Hagans Kelley of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service in Scotland Neck.  A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service, with the Rev. Ricky Sorie officiating.  Interment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery.
