Mrs. Thelma Mae Harrington Dempsey, 89, formerly of Murfreesboro and Aulander, N.C., died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at The Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, Yanceyville, N. C. Born November 19, 1922 in Bertie County, N.C., Mrs. Dempsey was the daughter of the late Roy Fay Harrington and the late Elia Terry Harrington. On May 9, 1942 she married Glenwood F. Dempsey, who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Dempsey was also preceded in death by a brother, Odice L. Harrington.

Mrs. Dempsey is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Glenda Francis, and husband, Ron, of Danville, Virginia, two sisters, Mrs. Macy Miller of Ahoskie and Mrs. Edith Smith and husband, Charlie of Millennium, one granddaughter, Courtney Paige Farmer, and husband, Chris, of Danville, Virginia and one great granddaughter, Charleston Paige Farmer of Danville. She is also survived by two nieces, Mrs. Teresa Futrell, and Mrs. Lou Ann Simmons, and one nephew, Hilton Earl Miller.

Mrs. Dempsey graduated from Aulander High School, where she was the Valedictorian of her class. After her marriage, she traveled with her husband to numerous army posts during and after World War II. After returning to North Carolina in 1950, Mrs. Dempsey was a homemaker and worked as a sales associate in Murfreesboro and Aulander.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dempsey will be held Wednesday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home, Ahoskie, N.C. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Aulander Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of Mrs. Edith Smith in Millennium.

Garrett-Jones Funeral Home of Ahoskie is in charge of arrangements.

Edith and Glenda,

I just learned of Thelma’s passing. I am so shocked. My heart goes out to all of you. We are loosing our loved ones, too fast! My prayers are with you all!

Glenda – My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during ths time of loss. I often have thoughts on growing up with you and your parents right down the road. You mother was so proud of you.
