Ted Hamilton Shinaberry, Sr., 85, of Richmond Va., passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar A. and Mary V. Shinaberry; and brothers Ronald Eugene Shinaberry and Thomas Hannah Shinaberry.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emily A. Shinaberry; two children Wendy S. Brooks and husband Bill, of Fredericksburg Va., Ted H. Shinaberry, Jr., and wife Patty, of Holly Springs, NC.; brothers, Lewis Shinaberry of Warren, Ohio, Gale Shinaberry of Niles Ohio, sister Rebecca Evans of South Jordan, Utah; sister-in-law, Elva Shinaberry of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren Garrett, Spencer and Sarah Brooks, Jacob and Savannah Shinaberry, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted was raised in Cass, West Virginia and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He taught dance at Arthur Murray Studios in WV and Richmond. He retired from International Harvester, volunteered at Johnson-Willis Hospital for 10 years, and was an active member of Huguenot United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher and was very involved in the United Methodist Men‚??s group.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, September 16, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 am at Huguenot UMC. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday at 11 am at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.
