SCOTLAND NECK, NC – Sarah “Sue” Bartlett Uzzell, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Uzzell was born on January 12, 1929 to Benjamin F. Bartlett, Sr. and Hortense Baker Bartlett in Wayne County, NC. She attended East Carolina Teachers College and graduated from King’s Business College in Raleigh, NC. Sue married the love of her life in 1949 and they moved to Halifax Co. in 1958. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck and working in the community. Sue was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She worked in insurance for a number of years until her son, Steve was born then later volunteered with the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels for many years. Sue also worked with the Board of Elections for many years. She loved to travel, especially spending time at Lake Gaston. Sue will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Travis Uzzell, a son, Patrick Scott Uzzell, and a brother, Benjamin F. Bartlett, Jr.
Left to cherish Sue’s memory are a son, Mark Steven “Steve” Uzzell and wife Jo Ann; a sister, Elaine B. Mason of Holly Springs, NC; a brother, Lemuel Bartlett and wife Gwen of Goldsboro, NC; a grandson, Scott Uzzell and wife Anna of Williamston, NC; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Uzzell Lilley and husband Ben of Tarboro, NC, two great granddaughters, Sarah Scott and Hayes Uzzell, two great-grandsons, Nate and Cameron Lilley, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 22, 2019 from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service and other times at the home.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck, Scotland Neck, NC, with Rev. Paul Spradley and Dr. James Drake, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck, NC.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to caregivers, Josephine Smith, Virginia Bryant, Jo Ann Pender, and Vetta Thomas for their love and dedicated care for Mrs. Sue over the last several years.
