October 31, 1920 - February 8, 2007

Samuel Thorne Gregory, Sr., 86, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 6:20 a.m. after a long illness at Our Community Hospital in Scotland Neck.  A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Scotland Neck.  Sam was born on October 31, 1920 to the late Fletcher Harrison Gregory, I and Indiana “Boyd” Thorne Gregory of Halifax.  He became the husband of Elizabeth “Libby” Caldwell Beckwith of Roanoke Rapids on October 25, 1947.  Sam is survived by his five children, Dr. Samuel Thorne Gregory, Jr., DDS and wife Sherry Moore Norris Gregory of Dunn, Robert Beckwith Gregory of Scotland Neck, John Patterson Gregory of Scotland Neck, Elizabeth “Libbet” Caldwell Gregory Milford and husband Richard Lee Milford, Sr. of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, and Blanche Beckwith Gregory Garrell and husband Michael Maxwell Garrell of Tabor City; sister, Agnes Gregory Carter of Roanoke Rapids; granddaughter, Heather Frances Garrell; and four grandsons, Samuel Thorne Gregory, III, Richard Lee “Toby” Milford, Jr., Justin Michael Garrell, and Matthew Gregory Garrell.  The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Gregory home, 4886 Highway 258 North, Scotland Neck.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 1305 Main Street, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or to the Scotland Neck Memorial Library, P.O. Box 126, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.  Arrangements were handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck
