Sam Kitchin Edwards, 84, died Saturday, June 11, 2016.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. The Reverend Doctor Allen Cherry will be presiding.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery. The family also invites friends to join them after the service for lunch at Edwards Cotton Company, 355 Lees Meadow Road, Scotland Neck.

Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend to many. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and owner/operator of Edwards Cotton Company in Scotland Neck.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, John Burton and Lucille Kitchin Edwards; his daughter, Amie Edwards; his sister, Eva Kitchin Winslow; his brother, Jack Edwards; and his nephew, John Winslow.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Coleman “Bert” Edwards; his daughters, Libby Edwards and Debbie Duke and husband Keith all of Scotland Neck and Burton Edwards of Roxboro; his son, Sammy Edwards of Scotland Neck; his favorite sister-in-law, Nancy Dickens of Scotland Neck; his brother-in-law, Lloyd Winslow, Sr. of Scotland Neck; his special nephew, Lloyd Winslow, Jr. and wife Pattie of Scotland Neck; six grandchildren, Sam Edwards, III, Rebecca Boyd, Jon Edwards, Kristin Duke, Haley Williams, and Evan Williams; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Boyd and Kaitlyn Boyd; and Robbie Waters, his best friend and business partner for more then 40 years.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck, P.O. Box 539, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or to the Down East Animal Refuge, P.O. Drawer 365, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.

Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
