CONWAY, NC-Mrs. Ruth Futrell Askew, age 94, of Walter E. Martin Road, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Vidant North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Mrs. Askew was born on December 3, 1926 to Luter Futrell and Rosa Parker Futrell in Northampton County, North Carolina. She was a dedicated member of Potecasi Baptist Church. She loved her church, bible studies, reading, working in her flowers, and bird watching. Ruth cherished her family dearly and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Askew, a grandson, Jeremy Vinson, a sister, Josie Barnes, and brothers, Reuben, Henry, and Simon Futrell.
Ruth is survived by her son, Gerald Askew and wife Sarah of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Kathy Newsome and husband Steve of Woodland, and Amy Askew DeLoatch of Woodland; seven granddaughters, Lisa A. Martin and husband Ken, Karen A. Gould and husband Robbie, Sandy Warren and husband Lonnie, Becky Evans and husband Ed, Abby Parks and husband Nathan, and Whitney Jernigan and husband Don; and Angela Matthews. Also surviving are 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, Rich Square, NC.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Potecasi Baptist Church with Rev. J Brabban, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

I met Mrs. Askew and her sister, Josie Barnes, years ago when I installed a Lifeline unit for Ms. Barnes. Mrs. Askew was so very kind and it was my pleasure to have known her. Sending prayers t her family.
