Rom Bragg Parker, III

September 12, 1946 - November 16, 2016

Rom Bragg Parker, III, 70, of Enfield died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Nash General Hospital.

He was born to the late Rom and Marysue “Jeri” Parker on September 12, 1946 in Rocky Mount. Upon graduation from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1972, Rom worked for several years in Washington D.C. in the office of Senator Jesse Helms. He then returned to Enfield to join his father’s law practice. In recent years Rom retired from his practice and began a new venture that he much enjoyed. Upon adding a real estate license to his law degree, he co-founded Farm and Forest Realty with his good friend, Jay Hunter.

Like his father before him, he loved his eastern NC heritage. Growing up at his grandmother’s knee, he often heard stories of family history. His grandmother, a renowned genealogist in her own right, instilled in him an interest that he pursued in later years. He researched and wrote several books and compositions on his family lines. His other love was the family farm, a place of both sanctuary and joy to him.

Rom was preceded in death by his parents, Rom B. Parker and Marysue “Jeri” Edmondson Parker.

He is survived by his sister, Ada Parker Shields and husband Clay of Scotland Neck; his niece, Elizabeth Shields Fagg and husband John of Charlotte; his nephew, Clay Parker Shields and wife Marisa of Cary; his great-niece, Sara Shields Fagg; and his great-nephew, Robert Fagg.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield. The Reverend Doctor James Drake will be presiding.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Rom’s memory to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
