Patricia “Pat” Barnes Johnson, 75, of Pendleton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 4, 2019 in her home, with her family by her side, following a long battle with cancer.

Pat was born August 23, 1944 to the late Gilbert Lister Lane and Sarah Jane Scull Lane in Potecasi, NC.  She was an accomplished cosmetologist graduating from Mitchell’s Cosmetology School in Greenville, NC.   She worked in the trade for many years in Murfreesboro, NC and later from her home.  She could not only style hair, but was also a make-up artist, manicurist, and all that came with the title.  Later in life, she worked with her sister as a floral designer at the former Nell’s Florist in Murfreesboro, NC.  She was a member of Robert’s Chapel Baptist Church for many years where she sang in the choir, led vacation bible school, and was involved in the WMU.  Later, she was an active member of Meherrin Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Benevolence Committee as long as her health permitted.  Above all, Pat was an excellent homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend.  She spent most of her time cooking, caring for, and serving everyone in her family and community. In addition, she loved the outdoors, working in her flowers, sitting on the screen porch, and watching the birds.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. K.B. Scull, Jr of Brandon, FL; and a special great nephew, Brandon Warren of Murfreesboro, NC.

Left to cherish her memory is a devoted husband Louis C. Johnson of the home, a loving son, Stanley Jason Barnes, and wife Amy, from Boykins, VA, two stepdaughters, Pam Mihovch, and husband C.C., of Wanchese, NC and Susan Johnson of Winter Haven, FL. Other survivors include a big brother, Stewart Lane and wife Brenda, of Conway, NC and a loving sister Juanita Lane Britt, and husband L.G., also of Conway, NC. Pat had three grandchildren that were very, very special to her.  Tyler Elaine Britton, a second-year nursing student at Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, VA; Pvt. Brandon Lee Griffin, serving in the US Army, Fort Riley, Kansas; Kristen Lane Barnes, a new Freshman, and volleyball player, at Southampton High School.  She loved them dearly. Pat also had four nieces that she cherished.  Rebecca Lane Strickland and husband David of Southern Shores, NC; Melissa Lane Durkin, and husband Luke, of Virginia Beach, VA; Michelle Britt Warren of Murfreesboro, NC; Tanya Britt Mizelle, and husband Alan, of Greenville, NC. She was also loved by her great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nephews, and a great-great niece.  Her warm smile and loving heart will be deeply missed by all, but never forgotten.

The family wishes to express a sincere thanks to Judi Moore, Nick Aston, and the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospice Service for the care that they provided to Pat during her final days.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening September 6, 2019 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, and a celebration of life service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro with the Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Conway Cemetery, Conway, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the Meherrin Baptist Church, 519 Meherrin Lane, Murfreesboro, NC 27855 or online by clicking here or directly to Shriners Hospitals for Children; Sudan Shriners; 403 East Front Street; New Bern, NC 28560 or online by clicking here
