Mildred Shields "Millie" Morris

March 14, 1953 - June 28, 2016

Mildred “Millie” Shields Morris of Red Oak, NC, went to be with her Jesus on June 28, 2016. Millie was educated in the Rocky Mount, NC city schools, and then graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and later became a National Board Certified Teacher. She taught in Edgecombe and Nash County schools until she retired in 2015.

She was preceded in death by her 8-year-old son Jordan Shields Morris, her father C. Robert Shields and her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert C Shields and Mildred E. Clark of Scotland Neck, NC. Surviving are her husband John R. Morris of Red Oak, NC and son Burton E. Morris of Raleigh, NC, her mother, Burton C. Shields of Boone, NC, two brothers, Robert B. Shields and his wife Melinda of Minneapolis, MN, Bradford L. Shields Sr. and his wife Kim of Boone, NC, sister-in law Zoe Sams and husband Ron Sams of Asheville, NC, nephews Bradford Shields Jr and wife Dani, Robert H. Shields, Chris Sams, Eric Sams, and nieces Sarah Shields, Jessica Shields, Amy Shields, and Meredith Shields, and one great nephew Jordan D. Shields.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Church on the Rise, 3520 Bishop Road, Rocky Mount, NC at 11:00am. Prior to the service, a family visitation will begin at 10:00am. A private burial will be held at a later date at the cemetery in Scotland Neck, NC.
