SCOTLAND NECK, NC – Mary Roberson Staton, age 73, of US Hwy. 258, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday,  September 29, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on May 5, 1948 to Willie and Fannie Roberson in Robersonville, NC. Mary met the love of her life, Randy, at Western Auto in Scotland Neck. The two have dedicated their life to the community, as well as their son, Patrick. She has served in many capacities in community service, from serving on the Scotland Neck Rescue Squad, to starting the Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary, and then being the first female firefighter to become a certified member of the Fire Department where she served for 25 plus years. She was truly one of the guys, doing anything needed when tackling a blaze. She also was a business owner in the community which was another part of showing her love and dedication to the town. Mary loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Michael Staton, and sisters, Barbara Brooks, Francis Farmer, Helen Phillips, and Magnolia Taylor.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Randy, a son, John Patrick Staton and wife Amber of Scotland Neck; two granddaughters, Samantha Chandler and Logan Staton; three grandsons, Zachary Chandler, Joseph Chandler, and William Staton; a sister, Katie Clark of Bethel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on  Saturday evening, October 2, 2021 from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service, Scotland Neck, NC and other times at the home.

A celebration of life graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 3, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Scotland Neck, NC, with Pastor Steve Herring officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary to the Nahalah Presbyterian Church, 11890 US Highway 258, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or online by clicking here
