Mrs. Mary Margaret Burke Vick, age 82 died at Roanoke Chowan Hospital on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
She was born in Boone County, Iowa on June 18, 1926, the fourth of eight children of William Parnell and Annie Pearl Burke. She was a registered nurse, having graduated from Broadlawns Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa in 1948. Mrs. Vick was married to Joseph Vick on August 14, 1948 and they enjoyed sixty years of marriage. Her career started at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in 1948 and concluded with the Northampton County Health Department in 1984. She will be remembered as one that was always ready to help those in time of need.
Preceding her in death are her mother, Annie Pearl Hall Burke, her father William Parnell Burke, one sister, Bonnie Santi and one brother, Paul Burke.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Jerry Vick, Sr. of the home, one daughter Carol Vick of Pasadena, California, two sons; Mike Vick and his wife Therese of Rich Square, North Carolina and Jerry Vick of Washington, North Carolina, two sisters; Gladys Heinen and Betty Anderson, three brothers; Billy Burke, Martin Burke and Bob Burke. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Sarah and Joe Vick.
