Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson Edwards, age 80 died on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Bertie County and lived all her life in Halifax County. She was married to the late Harold B. Edwards in 1946 and they enjoyed thirty-nine years of marriage until his death in 1985. To this marriage was born six children. Mrs. Edwards worked as a beautician for some forty years in Scotland Neck. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Scotland Neck where she served many capacities. She was devoted to her church and serving the Lord. Mrs. Edwards, each and every Sunday brought a wonderful smile to the sanctuary. Her bright personality will be greatly missed by not only First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck, but each and everyone who knew her. She loved the outdoors working in her flowers and gardening. She loved people.

Preceding her in death other than her husband are her mother and father, Aleathia Harrison Johnson and William Edward Johnson, her sister, Lynette J. Bunch, her brother, Laverne Johnson and one grandchild, Chad Edwards.

Survivors include her six children; Elizabeth Joanna Perry of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Ann Edwards-Tyng of Raleigh, NC, Jimmy H. Edwards and his wife Kathy of Scotland Neck, NC, Johnny B. Edwards and his wife Becky of Gates, NC, Roland W. Edwards of Scotland Neck, NC and Quessie E. Bohmer and her husband Earl of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Sammy and Justin Perry, Paul and Gregory Tyng, Christopher and Corey Edwards, Jason and Larry Edwards and Ashton Bohmer, along with three great grandchildren, Katherine, James, and Luke Edwards.
