Mary Alice's beauty shop was behind the Post Office years ago, I am sure you remember. Anyway, we were going to a Edward's family reunion in Kinston and I wanted to look my best, because I was going to meet family I had never seen. Well, Mary Alice had always told me to stop messing with my hair, and of course, I did not listen. I decided to color and perm my hair all on the same day. Now, I did not have any idea what I was doing and thought, this cannot be that difficult, WRONG. I had shoulder length hair and by the time I finished with it, the color was orange and it was fried, so I wrapped a towel around my hair, crying, and drove to the beauty shop. When I walked in, she said Susan what have you done now( I can picture the expression on her face so good). Mrs. Madry was under the dryer, boy did she come out from under that thing when I took the towel off. Mary Alice jumped back as if she had seen someone with leprosy, it was a site to behold, her expression and my hair, hahaha. As she always did for everyone, she took me under her wing and colored my hair to correct it and cut it very very short. I just remember us laughing and her telling me to dry those tears I loved her dearly and will miss her with all my heart.

I am so sorry for your loss. She always had a kind word for me and her smile was one of the best parts of seeing her in church! She was a lady who had Jesus shining all over her! God bless all of you!

Hi Joanna, you mom always had the brightest smile, and I mean always. I can't ever remember seeing her that she wasn't grinning and being the life of the gathering. I'm sure she is having a great time in heaven, visiting all her friends and family, laughing and having a grand time. Take care of yourself.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have wonderful memories of Mary Alice, growing up in Scotland Neck, and can hear her beautiful southern drawl as I gaze at the lovely photograph of her. She was a wonderful story teller....always brought a smile to my face. My heart goes out to you, at this time.

I will always remember the love that Ms. Mary Alice showed me. She always treated me like one of her own children. I have fond memories, Quessie, of being at your house for sleepovers. She would always watch our musical productions and let us take over the kitchen to constantly be cooking something. I have thought of her fondly over the years and she will be greatly missed.
