AHOSKIE, NC – Mark Sumner Gunnells, II, age 33, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home.
Sumner was born on May 5, 1987 to Mark Gunnells and Gloria Howell Robinson in Hertford County, NC. He loved his family dearly, especially his children. Sumner was a self-employed contractor and was a jack of all trades. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed, golfing, bass fishing, football, and basketball. Sumner cherished the peek-a-boo sessions with the baby after bath time. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Reuben Gunnells, and grandmothers, Louise Gunnells, and Sarah E. Howell.
Left to cherish Sumner’s memory is his girlfriend, Jessica Mobley of the home; son, Case Gunnells; daughter, Aliyah Gunnells; father, Mark Gunnells and wife Lisa, mother, Gloria Robinson and husband Dickie, two brothers, Andy Robinson and wife Phyllis, and Jason Whitley and wife Jessica; sister, Paula Sorrentino and husband Vic; step-mother, Connie Pierce; grandfather, Dyerl F. Howell and wife Elsie; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Aulander, NC.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 2:00 pm at the Roxobel Kelford Cemetery, Roxobel, NC, with Rev. Steve Farmer officiating.
