Back in the mid-1960’s, I remember fishing Papa Joe Britt’s pound net pole fish hurdles with Perry and Lil Jupe. I never could figure out the hand-written map of which pole to “fish” around. All I do know is, we all caught fish! Lil Jupe’s sister taught Sunday School class at Harrellsville Baptist Church. I’m pretty sure Lil Jupe was there the Sunday I went with Perry. Lula Pearl asked me, “now who are you young man.?” My smarty pants response, “just a sinner from Ahoskie,” disrupted her whole lesson plan as Lula Pearl went on and on about “how we’re all just sinners.” All us boys snickered about how everything got side-tracked. I kinda remember Lil Jupe asking me to come back every Sunday to upset Lula Pearl’s class. God bless his family on their loss. I hope my memory gives them a smile in their time of grief.

So sad to see the passing of Lil Jupe. I went to school with him at Harrellsville School and then on to Ahoskie. Jupe was full of life, enjoyed so much and was always giving you a laugh. He will be missed and my sympathies go out to his family. RIP Lil Jupe!
