Joe L. “Joe Bill” Riddick, Jr., 76, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, January 17, 2015.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Scotland Neck. A memorial service will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 for family and friends at Captain Ratty’s Restaurant, 202 Middle Street, New Bern.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.

Joe Bill was born and raised in Scotland Neck and graduated from Scotland Neck High School, UNC Wilmington, and NC State College Engineering School. His 50 years of engineering work included the California Division of Highways, the NC Highway Commission, Armco Steel, FT Green and Associates, and Robert M. Chiles, Eng. Joe Bill served in the NC and CA National Guards and was active in the Boy Scouts and the New Bern Battlefield Preservation. His passion was getting young men and women involved in the outdoors. He shared his time at Clark Gun Club, Whitford Plantation, Rose Bay, and Cape Lookout with family and friends. Joe Bill was a father to many and a friend to all. A true Southern gentleman and native son he will be missed by all. “Fac et Spera”

Joe Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joe L. Riddick, Sr. and Willella Murphey Riddick.

He is survived by his daughter, Jerri Coombs of Durham; his sons, Joseph Lanier Riddick, III and Murphey West Riddick both of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Riddick and Haley Coombs.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 372, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.

Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
