AHOSKIE – James Walter Raleigh, Sr., age 76, of the 100 block of evergreen Street, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Raleigh was born in Kent, Maryland, on June 4, 1935, a son of the late Walter and Agnes Webser Raleigh. He was retired from the U.S. Armed Forces, Army and Air Force.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Josephine T. Raleigh of Ahoskie; his daughters, Ruth Ann Parker and husband, Chris, Theresa M. Rawls and husband, Clay, and Nancy L. Chase, all of Ahoskie; a son, James W. Raleigh, Jr. and wife, Cherry of Colerain; and a sister, Doris Buzack of Jessup, MD. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Chris, Jr., Stephen, Kyle, Chelsea, Jenna and Shellie; and four great grandchildren, Eric, Adrianna, Seth, and Logan.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be conducted at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the familoy request that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B, Welness Drive, Greenville, NC, 27834.
