James Perry Vaughan, 86, died January 1. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Scotland Neck with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on January 3, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Service, 202 E. 10th St., Scotland Neck.

At 18, Perry took his first job off the family farm with the A&P grocery in Oxford, NC. When drafted in WWII, he served as a tank commander in the 144th Tank Battalion, Company B, in the Pacific Theater. He returned to the A&P which sent him to Scotland Neck where he lived and worked the rest of his life. He left A&P to open his own grocery and worked in the grocery business until his death. He was also known as a good farmer who cared for the land and an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank H. and Le Nora Snipes Vaughan of Bullock, NC, brothers and sisters.

Perry is survived by his wife Joyce. He is survived by one sister Mabel Brown of Rocky Mount, NC. He is also survived Joyce’s children Steve and wife Kathy Allsbrook of Midlothian, VA; Mary Kay and husband Scott Bradshaw of Plymouth, NC; Amy Allsbrook and Tommie Braddy, both of Scotland Neck. Perry is also survived by step grandchildren, including Janey Price Nodeen and husband Tom and Keely Price Roderer of Fairfax Station, VA and great grandsons Rob Wade Roderer and Wade Hampton Price, IV. He is also survived by step grandchildren David and wife Julie Allsbrook and their son Noah of Asheboro, NC; Kelly and husband Bill Hartland of Fredericksburg, VA; Justin and Meredith Bradshaw of Plymouth, NC; and Will Braddy of Scotland Neck. ‘Uncle Jimmy’ is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, Scotland Neck, or the charity of one’s choice.
