Irene Braddy Jones, 88, died Saturday, August 16, 2008.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Scotland Neck United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Roger Cope will be presiding.

Irene loved her church and helped as long as her health would allow. She worked as a bookkeeper in the family business and was lunchroom manager for Dawson School for twenty-four years. Irene volunteered for Meals on Wheels for eight years and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Enfield Chapter. She loved cooking for her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed going out with her friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, James Brickhouse Jones; her son, Marvin Jones; her brother, Ernest Jones; and her sisters, Lottie Brantley, Pauline Hux, Mary Hardy, and Vera Waters.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky J. Bass and husband L.R. of Nashville; son, Fred Jones and wife Peggie of Roanoke Rapids; daughter-in-law, Pat Jones of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Freddie Jones, Jr., April Mehls and husband Dan, Kevin Jones and wife Shannon, Leslie Bass, III and wife Janet, Daniel Bass and wife Renee, Beth Edwards and husband Tim, and Shannon Shackelford and husband Tim; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mehls, Cameron Mehls, Carlee Mehls, Kristen Jones, Nicholas Jones, Trent Bass, Sarah Bass, Danielle Bass, Mallory Bass, Luke Edwards, Sadie Edwards, Tanner Shackelford, and Jesse Shackelford.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Scotland Neck United Methodist Church, 110 West 9th Street, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.

Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
