Horace Milton Sykes, 67, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 surrounded by his family at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Enfield Baptist Church, 200 West Burnette Avenue, Enfield. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield. The Reverend Dallas Prestwood and the Reverend Alvin Davis will be presiding.
Horace was born on June 12, 1943 in Enfield and was the son of Doris Pittman Sykes and the late Marion Parker Sykes, Sr. He attended Enfield Public Schools and was employed by Harris Brothers for a number of years. Horace was a member of Enfield Baptist Church for over 50 years and enjoyed visiting with friends and fixing things around the house and farm. He loved John Deere tractors, dogs, and being outdoors. Horace has been a resident of Red Oak Assisted Living in Greenville for the past four years.
Horace is survived by his mother, Doris Pittman Sykes of Enfield; brothers, Marion Sykes and wife Gwen of Havelock, Alan Sykes and wife Tanya of Graham, and Phillip Sykes and wife Wanda of Enfield; and sister, Phyllis Sykes Parker of Greenville. He is also survived by two nieces, five nephews, two great nieces and a great nephew, all of whom Horace enjoyed.
Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
