AHOSKIE, NC- Helen Louise Cowey born April 11, 1961 in York, PA.
Helen went to be with Jesus on Monday April 18, 2022. Helen was 61, she was the youngest of 6 children, Helen loved her family. The doctors told her mom she wouldn’t live much past the age of 12 but she did, and boy did she live. Everyone that knew Helen loved her and her excitement for life. Helen was a special person whose friendly personality and great laugh made people love her, ask her how she was doing, and she would always answer “fantastic”.
Some of her very favorite things were her 4:00 snacks: a honeybun and a Mt Dew, hugs from her mom when she got home from school, love of horses, playing her guitar, being an avid NC State fan, and the love of anything John Deere.
When she was old enough, she was enrolled in special education classes in the public schools, where she made many friends and learned a lot. As an adult she worked several jobs after which she attended adult day care center in Roanoke Rapids, NC, where she enjoyed many activities, parties especially her birthday parties and dances, as well as dressing up for Halloween. She loved county music, the Gaither Vocal Band, enjoying many hours of listening to her music.
One of Helen’s biggest loves was the love of her church and her church family, and they loved her and always made a fuss over her.
Her later years were spent at the Ahoskie House. Several of the girls became like her family, she was everyone’s baby. The care she received there will be forever remembered.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Cowey and a brother, Dale Cowey.
