Geraldine Askew "Gerie" Masingo

Geraldine “Gerie” Askew Masingo, 85 of Westminster passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at home.

Born September 15, 1932 in Olney, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie Newsome Askew. She was preceded by her husband Donald K. Masingo in 2007.

Gerie was a homemaker and lived for many years in Chesapeake, Virginia. She enjoyed gardening, loved roses, knitting and crocheting and spending time with her family. She was active in her church while living in Chesapeake.

 

She is survived by her children William (Jackie) Umphlett of Baltimore, Betty (Michael) Stewart of Chesapeake, VA and Sharon Couch of Westminster; and siblings Nancy Meszaros, Gail Askew, and John Askew; and grandchildren Jessica Umphlett, Brent Umphlett, as well as a host of step-children, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her siblings, Jean, Pete and Charlie Askew; and her son-in-law James Couch.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ahoskie Cemetery.
