ROXOBEL-George Ruben “Buck” Bishop passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 17, 2022 at Rich Square Health Care.  He was born on January 6, 1927, the son of Ruben D. Bishop and Flonie Vick Bishop.

He graduated from Roxobel-Kelford High School in 1945 and served in the Merchant Marines from June 1945 – December 1946.  In October 1950, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving most of his time in Korea until his discharge in September 1952.  He owned and operated Roxobel Pure Service for 27 years.  He married Willie Lou Holloman of Harrellsville, NC on June 20, 1954.  He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, trustee, choir member and on various committees.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Willie Lou Holloman Bishop; daughters, Debra Johnson and husband Don, of Franklin, VA and Wendy Bishop of Raleigh, NC; grandsons, Matthew Johnson and wife Rebecca of Franklin, VA, and Aaron Johnson and wife Victoria of Virginia Beach, VA; great granddaughter Caroline Johnson of Franklin, VA, and a special niece, Joyce Rilee of Mechanicsville, VA.  He was predeceased by a sister, Hilda Bishop Evans of Palm Bay, FL and niece, Vicky Stanfield of Palm Bay, FL.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 11:00am at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery with the Reverend David Walther officiating.
