COLERAIN – Mr. George Donald ‘G.D.’ Perry, Sr., age 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 3, 2012, surrounded by all his children and grandchildren. He was born in Bertie County on July 12, 1923, the son of the late George Hymon Perry and Betty White Perry. Mr. Perry was married to Lucille Jernigan Perry for sixty-eight years and to this marriage was born three children.
Mr. Perry proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy for several years. He was a member, deacon and choir member of the Colerain Baptist Church, and worked all his life farming until he retired. Following retirement, Mr. Perry would work his garden sharing his vegetables with the community, family and friends. He was actively involved in the Farm Bureau for many years, and had a tremendous love for his family, friends and church. Mr. Perry loved fishing, hunting and simply being outdoors.
Besides his loving wife, left to cherish his memory are daughters, Phyllis Perry Bradshaw and husband Frankie of Greenville, NC, and Bonnie Perry Britton of Colerain, NC; a son, George Donald ‘Buck’ Perry, Jr. and wife Kathy of Colerain, NC; a sister, Sophia Perry Sumner and husband Grady of Ahoskie, NC; grandchildren, Anissa Davenport, Heath Boyer, George Donald Perry III, Kari Dawn Pierce, Perry Britton; and great-grandchildren, Allie Davenport, Rachel Davenport, Laynie Boyer and Henry Buck Pierce. Other than his parents, Mr. Perry was preceeded in death by sisters, McNeal Ball, Annie Mae Ramsey & Sarah Milbert, and brother Dan W. Perry.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Colerain Baptist Church with Rev. Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
