Floyd Mahlon Braddy

Floyd Mahlon Braddy age 76, of Scotland Neck, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, November 11, 2018.

Mahlon was born on October 9, 1942 to Floyd and Ruby Braddy. He grew up in Scotland Neck and graduated from Scotland Neck High school where he played all sports. His greatest love was baseball where he had the opportunity to pitch against Catfish Hunter twice and won both times.  Mahlon served with the US Army and the Army National Guard for a total of eighteen years.  He was married to the love of his life Mary Louise Lovegrove Braddy on June 2, 1963 and they were blessed with a wonderful daughter Sharon.  Mahlon was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck. He and Louise lived in High Point for ten years, where he worked at Alderman’s Studios in the graphic arts department.  They returned to Scotland Neck in 1973 where Mahlon began working with the National Guard, 119th Infantry as the unit administrator for a period of seventeen years. Following his service with National Guard, he began his work with the Town of Scotland Neck as a warehouse manager.  After years of employment, Mahlon retired July 31, 2012.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, reading and watching sports. He loved watching his nieces and nephews play sports.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Harrison Braddy, father, Floyd Braddy and sister, Nelia Braddy Butler.

Mahlon is survived by his wife Mary Louise, daughter, Sharon Marie Braddy of Raleigh; sister, Becky Braddy Vicars of Scotland Neck; five nephews, Tim Parker and his wife Karen of Scotland Neck, Wade  Butler and his wife Leigh of Scotland Neck, Harris  Butler and his wife Tommy of Norman, OK, Randy Lovegrove of Casselberry, FL, Gary Lovegrove and wife Melissa of Orlando, FL; two nieces, Karen Lovegrove Peters and  Pam Lovegrove Kline and her husband Randy all of Orlando, FL.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 7:00-8:30PM at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 2:00PM at the First Baptist Church Scotland Neck with Rev. Paul Spradley officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery with Military Honors.
