COLERAIN – Elmer Ashley ‘Fluggie’ Byrum, age 83, of Perrytown Road, died Monday, September 3, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Byrum was born in Bertie County on December 30, 1928, a son of the late Emma Evans and George W. Byrum. A retired farmer, Mr. Byrum was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, a former volunteer fireman with the Perrytown Fire Department, and a former member of the Colerain Lion’s Club.
Mr. Byrum is survived by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Stratton Byrum, daughter, Judy B. Freeman and husband, David, of Colerain, NC; son, Ashley Byrum and wife, Sue of Colerain, NC; grandchildren, Israel Byrum and wife Courtney, Tracy Byrum and wife Casey, Josh Freeman, Kyle Freeman and Lance Freeman; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Byrum, Evan Byrum and Banks Byrum.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Bethany Baptist Church, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tommy Tripp officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie. The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4.

I am so sorry for your loss. There is a for Sure Hope. Jesus Christ boldly promised that millions now dead will live again. He said do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. Yes Jesus promised that millions now dead will live again on this earth and have the prospect of remaining on it forever under peaceful paradasaic conditions.
