Eddie Dewayne King, age 54, of Hobgood, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Duke Hospital of Durham.
He was born in Edgecombe County, NC on May 21, 1965 to the late Edward and Betty Baker King. Wayne worked as a dog handler for the NC Department of Corrections, working mostly with bloodhounds. He loved to fish and went as often as he could. Wayne was a member of Hobgood United Methodist Church and was devoted to his church family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, cousin, and friend to many, Wayne’s greatest joy was spending time with his family His kind and giving nature will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia King; his son, Brooks King and wife Brandy of Hobgood; his grandchildren, Ethan King and Alyssa King; his cousins, Evelyn “Sissy” Stewart and husband Jimmy of Scotland Neck and Dale Hearn of Gaston; and three special friends, David Mayer of Hobgood, Robbie Stallings of Scotland Neck, and Bobby Drewett of Jackson.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service in Scotland Neck.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Hobgood Cemetery, with Rev. Ron Elkins officiating.

I remember working with Eddie in the Central Region office for over 18 years, he was such a fun person and he always smiled. I am so sad to hear of his death and I will continue to pray for the family asking God to give them the strength to carry on. Love Naomi

I remember us all going to the movies together I will never forget we had a good time. I will never forget Wayne are y’all. I wish I could do something, all I can do is pray. I can’t believe that Eddie is gone. I started my career with Eddie at Tillery Correctional Center. He was one of the best guys and a very true friend to all he considered a friend. I heart goes out to hos wife and son. My prayers are with you. He will be missed by all.
