Douglas Wayne Cannon, 69, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at his home in Oak City.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Oak City Cemetery. The Reverend Doctor Jimmy Long and the Reverend Chris Minton will be presiding.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.

Douglas was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on December 8, 1947 in Edgecombe County, NC to the late William and Winnie Cannon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Renee Young; his sisters, Nancy Cannon Hall, Mildred Cannon Reed, Agnes Cannon Borror, and Sybil Cannon Przypek; and his brothers, Dallas Cannon, W.B. Cannon, Wilbur Cannon, and Curtis Cannon.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Long Cannon; his children, Chance Wayne Cannon and wife Mandy of Oak City, Laura Johnson and husband Craig of Clayton, Susan Manning of Robersonville, Victor Long of Greenville, and Dr. Jimmy Long of Greensboro, GA; his sisters, Margaret Moodie of Oak City, Carolyn Cannon of Conetoe, and Thelma Parker and husband Leon of Hobgood; his brothers, Virgil Cannon of Hobgood, Edward Cannon and wife Patsy of Hampton, VA, and Jimmy Cannon and wife Karen of Rocky Mount; his brother-in-law, Walter Przypek of Yorktown, VA; his sister-in-law, Ilene Cannon of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Harley Cannon, Katyn Cannon, Jordyn Johnson, Season Wyatt, Brock Johnson, Deborah Dianne Walker, Jackie Long, Jay Long, Matthew Long, Wesley Warren, Ethan Warren, and Jerry Young; and his great-grandchildren, Taylen Wyatt, Colby Wyatt, Tensley Wyatt, Ella Mae Young, and Emma Renee Young.
