Dorothy Powell

Mrs. Dorothy Bridgers Powell age 93, died at the Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie on Sunday, November 01, 2009. Mrs. Powell was a native of Northampton County. She was married to William Cecil Powell in 1936 and they enjoyed sixty years of marriage. Mrs. Powell was very active in the Woodland United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was the leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship and was a lifetime member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service now known as the UMW. She was a member of the Woodland Civic Club. Mrs. Powell was the board of elections registrar for the town of Woodland for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Mrs. Powell was loved and cherished by her entire family. She has been an inspiration to her family and all that knew her throughout her life.

Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Dena Askew Bridgers and Clater Bridgers, her husband, William Cecil Powell, her son William Keith Powell and three brothers; Eston, Howard and J.T. Bridgers.

Survivors include two daughters; Linda P. Howell and her husband Bill of Kitty Hawk and Jean P. Bryant and her husband Edward of Woodland, one sister, Elsie B. Thomas of Portsmouth, Virginia, three grandchildren; Jeff Howell, Mike Howell and Lynn H. Rowell, five great grandchildren; Brandon Howell, Zach Howell, Hunter Howell, Ellie Howell and Eryn Graves. Also surviving is one great great grandchild, Brady Howell along with several nieces and nephews.
