MURFREESBORO, NC – Delores Jackson Whitley, age 81, of Merriman Avenue, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Whitley was born on April 27, 1941 to George Arps Jackson and Verlie King Jackson in Ahoskie, NC. She died on her birthday and is having a grand celebration with her Jesus. Delores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and cherished her family dearly. She recently authored and published a Christian children’s book, Petunia Bloom Meets Jesus, and was honored in the International Poet Society. She enjoyed flower arranging, and spending time at King’s Coffee. She loved all types of flowers and birds. Delores was a Christian lady that loved her Lord and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Eldridge Whitley, Sr.
Delores is survived by her daughter, Deanna W Bissett of Murfreesboro; her son, James Eldridge Whitley Jr. and wife Jane of Danville, VA; two grandsons, Adam James Bissett of Sanford, FL, and Eric Christian Bissett of Norfolk, VA; a granddaughter, Kacie Pierce Whitley of Danville, VA; and her sister, Margaret Carolyn Roland and husband Johnnie of Murfreesboro, NC.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Higher Ground Pentecostal Holiness Church, Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of life funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Church, with Rev. Ray Faircloth Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC.

Deanna, Jim and families, It must have been 45 years ago that we moved into the little house beside you. That is the only time in my life that I lived in town. Your mama was the sweetest neighbor to me. We would go to Ahoskie and get groceries every Thursday. You and Jim would come over and play with Denise and Blake. May it bring you peace to know that your mama is now among the angels. Sending you much love with fond memories.
