PENDLETON, NC – Cynthia Anne Edwards, age 61, passed away Friday morning, September 25, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after spending several months for physical rehabilitation at Edgecombe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Tarboro. A lifelong resident of Northampton County, Anne was preceded in death by her infant twin daughters, Megan and Melissa Edwards: parents Mr. and Mrs. Grady Martin, Sr.; and stepmother, Bruce Ann Jones Martin.

A crafter, Anne was known for her artistic talents that ranged from painting to jewelry making and basket making to calligraphy and design. Her love for antiques, movies, and books are unmistakable in the Pendleton home she loved so much. Anne was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, where she served and led in the WMU’s Baptist Young Women’s organization, taught in the children’s Sunday school, and worked with the children in Vacation Bible School. A kind, gentle, spiritual person, Anne was always thinking of others, especially children, with thoughtful surprises and gestures of love. Quick witted with an appreciation for the comedic side of life, Anne blessed her family, friends, and anyone she met.

After graduating from Northampton County High School, Anne began what would become a life of caring for others by enrolling in Roanoke Chowan Community College’s nursing program. During this time, Anne made the decision to enroll full time in the Louise Obici School of Nursing in Suffolk, Virginia, graduating as a registered nurse in 1986. Anne worked in the Labor and Delivery Department and the Emergency Department at Vidant North in Roanoke Rapids before becoming an Emergency Department Nurse at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. Later, she owned and operated Severn Ag Service, alongside her husband, Keith, for several years, while also managing the Galatia Peanut Buying Station. One to be involved in the community, Anne worked almost thirteen years with the Northampton County Board of Elections serving much of that time as a judge for the Pendleton Precinct.

Anne is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Keith H. Edwards of their home: her son, Taylor E. Edwards and his fianceé, Cameron Taylor of Murfreesboro; sister, June Miller of Milwaukee; brothers Tim Martin and wife, Terry, Grady Lee Martin and wife, Shana, and Clay Martin all of Milwaukee; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at the Roberts Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Pendleton, NC, with Rev. Michael Currin, officiating.

The family wishes to acknowledge and extend appreciation to the many health care providers and in-home health caregivers that have so lovingly cared for Anne over the past thirteen years, especially these past few years.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be to Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, P.O Box 128, Pendleton, NC 27862 or online by clicking here

I am so, so sorry and so shocked! I have only seen this just now since my old computer wouldn’t let me on the Garrett-Sykes website. I cannot believe Ann is gone. God bless Keith and the children and the family. Ann, say hello and give a big hug to BooBoo for me. God bless you all until you meet again…

Anne was such a kind and sweet person. I really looked forward to our conversations as moms of elementary school children at Willis Hare; as we waited for that bell to ring! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I knew only for a short while but she made a lasting impression. We worked together briefly as nurses before I moved away from Roanoke Rapids. She was a loving and very compassionate person. My condolences to her family.

I am so sad to hear of Anne’s passing. Our paths crossed again about 8 years ago when we worked as RNs in the Emergency Room at RCH together. We were classmates through grammer school and friends through out high school. I respected your warm gentle spirit. Rest in peace my friend. I will be praying for your family to receive God’s peace and comfort during this difficult time.
