AHOSKIE – Clarence Wardell Castelow (‘Buster’), age 59, died Sunday, April 01, 2012, at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Castelow was born in Norfolk, VA, on May 5, 1952, a son of Joyce Ann Peay Castelow Allen and the late Needham Wardell Castelow. Clarence was a devoted husband, father and stepfather; an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to dance. He was employed as a pipefitter at Nasco Norfolk Shipbuilding in Norfolk, VA.
Besides his mother, Clarence leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Temperance Bazemore Castelow; his daughter, Bille Jo Castelow of Ahoskie, NC; his son, Anthony Paul Castelow of Chesapeake, VA; his stepchildren, Jerry Wayne Newsome, Jr. of Ahoskie, NC, Mary Evelyn Etters of Eure, NC; and Amy Jean Harrell of Winton, NC. Also surviving are his sisters, Shirley Jean Sherlock of Elizabeth City, NC and Joyce Ann Spencer of Alabama; his brothers Bruce Castelow of Hobbsville, NC, and Bobby Earl Castelow of Elizabeth City; his granddaughter Dawn Anderson of Chesapeake and his step grandchildren, Caitlin Brianna Newsome, Jonathan Tyler Newsome, Richard Dillon Harrell, Christopher Mills Harrell, Ethan Samuel Etters, and a baby girl due in May.
Clarence was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Ann Cox, brothers Donald Eugene Castelow and William Turner Castelow; a grandson Jesse Tyler Culbertson; and a step grandson, Hunter Lee Etters.
A visitation will be held at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and a celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, April 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gilbert Crawford officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA, 23060.

Temperance's children', It's hard to say good-bye to a man that has brought such joy into our lives. We all loved him a lot. Thank you for welcoming him into your lives and allowing him to be a grandfather to your children. He thought of each one of you as his own. My deepest sympathy to each of you.

Temperance, Buster is missed very much but will always be remembered as the one who always kept us laughing at the family gatherings. We will remember his wonderful laugh and huge smile, his warm heart and his love for you. I am so glad that the two of you met and fell in love.
