CONWAY, NC – Charles Wilson Lanier, Sr., age 73, passed away on April 29, 2017 at the Wake Medical Center of Raleigh, NC.


Mr. Lanier was born on June 22, 1943 to Turner and Dorothy Lanier in Bertie County, NC. Charles retired from Union Camp/International Paper after 40 years of service. He was a kind, gentle man who loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing and yard work. Charles was a faithful husband, loving father, proud grandfather – an incredible man that will be deeply missed by his family and friends.


Charles was preceded in death by his parents, including Marvin Lanier, who raised Charles as his own after Turner was killed in World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol  and two daughters, Carol Lanier Leggett and husband Steve of Wake Forest, NC, and Laura Jean Lanier Gregory and husband Charles, Jr. of Ft. Knox, Kentucky; one son, Charles Wilson Lanier Jr. and wife Ashley of Merry Hill, NC; two brothers, Stancil Earl Lanier and wife Janice of Franklin, VA, and Ricky Marvin Lanier of Conway, NC; five granddaughters, Amanda and Beth Leggett, both of Wake Forest, NC, Alayna, Julianna, and Josie Grace Lanier, all of Merry Hill, NC; and one step-grandson, Ian Gregory of Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the Creeksville Baptist Church, Conway, NC, with the Rev. Andy Sloan and Rev. Charlie Lanier, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow at the Creeksville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
