COLERAIN, NC – Charles Vandy Cullipher, age 53, lost a long battle with cancer on January 20, 2020 at the Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC.
Mr. Cullipher was born in Hertford County, NC, on May 7, 1966, a son of Charlie Henry and Bettie Sue Lewis Cullipher. Charles worked as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic for Kinder Morgan of Hertford in Winton, NC. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Charles was an avid Carolina Tarheel and Redskins fan. He enjoyed supporting and being a member of the Perrytown Volunteer Fire Department, but above everything else, Charles loved his family, supporting his children and especially his grandchildren in all their endeavors, especially sports.
Along with his parents, left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Mary Ellen Fairless Cullipher, two daughters, Brittany Harrell of Colerain, NC, Brandice Kaitlyn Cullipher of Windsor, NC, a son, Bryce Vandy Cullipher of Colerain, NC; a granddaughter, Shelby Elizabeth Walker of Colerain, NC; three grandsons, Jaxson Wilkins Harrell of Colerain, NC, Alex Vandy Cullipher of Colerain, NC, and Gavin Allen Hoggard of Windsor, NC; two brothers, Eric Cullipher and wife Jennifer of Grimesland, NC, and Darren Cullipher and wife, Jennifer of Ridgeland, MS; and special friends, Melvin and Heather Hinchey, and Lee Hinchey of Colerain, NC.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Bethany Baptist Church, with Rev. Tommy Tripp and Rev. Ricardo Hardison, officiating.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy on the passing of Charles. I learned of his illness a few years ago from a close family friend who was also battling cancer. Charles and I were classmates at Lawrence Academy, class of 1984. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Charles was a great guy who always tried to help someone in any way he could. My deepest prayers go out for the family. Charles was a great friend, co-worker for 18 years with me and he will be truly missed. Sorry for your loss of a Great Man !
To the family of Charles Cullipher my deepest sympathy and my heartfelt prayers are with you all as you lay your loved one to rest. Charles was a really good person and he was the type of guy who told you how he felt but not only that he showed his love for others. I loved him because he was compassionate and he wasn’t ashamed or afraid to show his emotions in front of others. He was a genuine individual and I will truly miss him.
