Mr. ‘Bill’ James Henry Cooke, age 81 died at the Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. He was a native of Bertie County. Mr. Cooke served three years with the United States Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany and involved with a medical unit. He was married to Marie Clark on December 24, 1956 and to this marriage was born two sons. Mr. Cooke was employed with Mylcraft for twenty years and later went to Edgecombe Manufacturing where he worked for ten years. He retired from Paul Bruce Manufacturing of Scotland Neck in 1997. He was member of the Rich Square Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge#488 of Rich Square which is now combined with Murfreesboro, NC. Mr. Cooke was a member of the Rich Square Jaycees, Rich Square Rescue Squad and fire department.
Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Reva Jernigan Cooke and Felix Oscar Cooke along with his sister, Margaret Adams
Survivors include his wife, Marie Clark Cooke of the home; two sons, Richard Cooke and his wife Susan of Goldsboro, NC and Tony Cooke and his wife Deanna of Greenville, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Brandon Cooke of Ahoskie, NC, Yuka Akiyama of Goldsboro, NC and Daniel Cooke of Greenville, NC.
