MURFREESBORO, NC – Barbara B. Liverman passed into her Heavenly home on Friday, June 3, 2022, in Sparta, Alleghany County, NC, where she had lived for the last two years.

If you knew Barbara, you knew a good one. She was an amazing light in her family, her church, and her community. If “saint” and “selfless” could be one person, it would be her. Never was there a kinder heart and soul. She was one of those people who made you want to be a better person simply by being in her presence. There are truly no words that equate too how incredibly kind, pure, and gentle she was.

Barbara was born September 6, 1935 in Northampton County, NC to Grady and Lola Barnes Balmer. She spent her early years living in Norfolk, VA before moving in 1960 to Como, NC with her parents, where for many years they operated Balmer’s Grocery. It was in Como that Barbara met Bobby Liverman. They were married on August 20, 1963 and were together until Bobby’s death on April 6, 2000. They had three sons, Paul (Betty) Liverman and Ken Liverman of Como, NC and Brett Liverman (Jay Woodruff) of Sparta NC, and two grandchildren, Morgan Fleetwood (Cody) and Jackson Liverman. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Edithe Liverman Taylor of Fuquay-Varina, NC, several nieces, and a nephew. Barbara’s family was the light of her life.

Barbara was a woman of faith. She was active in the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church for many years, until failing health prevented it. She loved flowers and animals and when she was able would often be found at work in her yard and garden, where she found peace and could commune with Nature and her Lord.

The family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to Cheryl Parker and Becky Howell for the care and most especially the friendship they gave Barbara during her time in Alleghany County.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro with Rev. John Porter officiating. Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Murfreesboro Chapel will be open on Thursday, June 9, 2022 until 7:00 pm for friends to stop by and pay respects to Mrs. Liverman and the family will receive visitors at the home of Paul and Betty Liverman, 325 Ebo Road, Como, NC at any time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, 2557 Cedar Dell Ln, Kinston, NC 28504, or online by clicking here, or to a charity of your choice.

Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements for the Liverman family and online condolences can be directed to the family by visiting www.garrettsykesfs.com.

This is for Brett (my former classmate) and the rest of the Balmer-Liverman family. My prayers and condolences, I send out for you all. I worked with Mrs. Barbara at Hardee’s of Murfreesboro many years ago. I remember her as being just as the obit said. Loving, kind, sweet, and a great child of God. I’m glad that I had known her. May God Bless you during your time of grief

I used to hang out at the store many years ago and they talked about the Livermans. Betty was a nice lady and I always enjoyed seeing Paul and Betty when they lived in Murfreesboro.

Barbara was as beautiful a lady, inside and out, as I have ever met. She was kind and loving, and could make you feel like family just talking to her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
