Anne Lovelace Kitchin

September 5, 1922 - October 28, 2020

Anne Lovelace Kitchin, born September 5, 1922 in Crisp, North Carolina to Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace and Julia Sydnor Lovelace, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at her beloved home, Gallberry, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. She lived happily there for seventy-five years, most of them with her husband Leland H. Kitchin, Jr. “Moose”.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her granddaughter, Tempie Gray Kitchin, and Tempie’s mother, Jewel. Anne and her six siblings were known to their family as the “Magnificent Seven”. She is preceded in death by her six siblings and their spouses: Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace “Bunny” and his wife, Virginia, William Lovelace and his wife, Jean, Julia Lee and her husband, Perry, Sue Whitlark Lane and her husband, Johnny, Jack Lovelace and his wife, Daphne, and Mary Moss and her husband, Toby.

Anne is survived by her three children: Anne Maria Warren and her husband, James, Hodge Kitchin and his wife, Jean, and Beth Bailey and her husband, Steve. She had five grandchildren: Bo Burgwyn and his wife, Brooke, Walt Burgwyn and his wife, Laurie, Julie Coyne and her husband, Charlie, Boyce Moore and her husband, Jess, and Brad Lilley and his wife, Heather, as well as eight great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.

Mama Anne, as she was affectionately called, loved, and enjoyed her family and friends. The doors at Gallberry were always graciously open to all. Mama Anne was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck and in her younger years was very active. She served on various committees, taught Sunday School, and helped with the GAs. She was also a dedicated member of the Scotland Neck Lions Club and an avid bridge player. In her later years, bridge was replaced with Rummikub and she always played to win!

The family will celebrate Mama Anne’s life, at the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 2:00PM. Rev. Paul Spradley will be officiating the service.
