Anna Arrington Carter Kendall of Scotland Neck, NC died at her home on June 6 in Scotland Neck. She was 59.

Anna was born to Tom Carter and Trudy (Suiter) Carter on December 20, 1958 in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the youngest of four children.

One of Anna’s passions as a girl was horseback riding. She started riding horses when she was in elementary school in Danville, VA and rode competitively and for pleasure for the next 12 years.

Everyone close to Anna was entertained by her irresistible, intelligent, some might even say wicked, sense of humor and her trademark style of finding creative and unexpected ways to express her thoughts. You truly never knew what she might say next, but there was a good chance you would be laughing after you heard it.

Anna’s aptitude for electrical engineering led to an associate’s degree in electrical engineering technologies from Durham Technical Institute. She worked for many years in electronics in the Research Triangle.

For the last 15 years of her life, Anna worked for Lowe’s Home Improvement at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Distribution Center in Garysburg, NC. Her work as the planner on night shift was pivotal in supporting operations at the distribution center. Her witty jokes and contagious laugh made for a wonderful work environment in the office. Anna was always interested in helping her younger co-workers find their way as they built their careers. She had a remarkable ability to understand the struggles and dreams of young people entering the work force. She loved the team members of her Lowe’s family and they loved her.

Anna is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Kitch Carter and Bruce Lilly of Bloomington, IN; her sister Ginger Carter of Chapel Hill, NC; four nieces; two nephews; and one grand-nephew. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Lewis Suiter Carter.

The family will conduct a memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church in Scotland Neck on Sunday June 17 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or The Scotland Neck Memorial Library.

Anna’s family is very grateful for the loving care and support given to Anna for the past nine months by Chris Wiggins, Kassia Day Blanding, Tara Dickens, and our cousin, Susan Hanff. These four caregivers worked together in an extraordinary fashion to ensure that Anna’s final months were as comfortable as possible. It was plain to see that Anna had a special place in her heart for each of these four remarkable women.

Dear Carter Kendall family, I am so sorry to have read of the recent death of your loved one Anna. Please accept my most sincere condolences. May you find the comfort from the Scriptures at John 5:28,29 where Jehovah God promises a resurrection of our loved ones through his son Jesus Christ. And then the wonderful hope in the near future to the end of all the causes for our sufferings including sickness and death promised at Revelation 21:3-5. When I’ve lost loved ones these Scriptures have comforted me as I hope they will help your family also. In your time of need may God’s loving arms surround your family during this most difficult time of your lives. Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss.
