AULANDER, NC – Shelton Ray Bryant, age 53, passed away on April 11, 2017, at the Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.
Mr. Bryant was born in Halifax County, NC, on June 29, 1963, a son of Eloise Bryant Hall and the late Charlie Bryant. Shelton worked as a Sewing Machine Mechanic until he became disabled and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and playing horseshoes until he could no longer handle the horseshoes and then changed to playing corn hole. Shelton was a devoted Carolina Tarheel fan and an avid Nascar fan, being loyal to Dale Earnhardt and later to Dale Earnhardt , Jr. Shelton loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he loved all animals. He loved life and lived it to its fullest. Shelton will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his biological father, Shelton was preceded in death by the man who raised him, Charles Murphy, a sister, Betty Sue Harlow, and brothers, Robert Earl Bryant, and Bruce Bryant.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Brenda Jenkins Bryant, his daughter, Lisa Jones Bishop of Lewiston, NC; a granddaughter, Makayla Jones; a grandson, Devin Vann; the woman he called mother who raised him, Ann Cumbo of Farmville, NC; six sisters, Libbie Pulley and husband, James of Woodland, NC, Frances Bryant of Woodland, NC, Sylvia Sutton and husband, Jimmy of Farmville, NC, Beanie Harlow and husband, Coppedge of Enfield, NC, Yvonne Pierce of Woodland, NC, and Lillie Mae Webb of Hobgood, NC; and three brothers, Joe Bryant and wife, Patty of Granite Quarry, NC, “Red” Bryant and wife, Kitty of Enfield, NC, and Chucky Murphy of Farmville, NC.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Laura Early, and Rev. Jamie Thompson, officiating.
