Sarah “Burton” Clark Shields, of Boone, went to be with her Jesus on Monday, June 12, 2017.
Burton was educated in Scotland Neck, North Carolina schools and graduated from high school at Bob Jones University High School. She attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, and Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, furthering her degree in Music. Later she also got a Business degree from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Robert Shields of Boone; her daughter, Millie Shields Morris of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; a grandson, Jordan Shields Morris of Rocky Mount; her sister, Eleanor Clark Murphy; her brother, William E. Clark of Tampa, Florida, and her Mother, Mildred E. Clark of Scotland Neck.
She is survived by her sons, Robert B. Shields and his wife, Melinda of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Bradford L. Shields and his wife Kim of Boone; one son-in-law, John R. Morris of Rocky Mount; grandsons, Burton E. Morris of Raleigh, Bradford L. Shields, Jr. and his wife Dani of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, and Robert H. Shields of Minneapolis; granddaughters, Sarah J. Shields of Boston, Massachusetts, Jessica G. Shields of Minneapolis, Amy E. Shields of Minneapolis, and Meredith J. Shields of Boone, and one great-grandson, Jordan Daniel Shields of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany.
Memorial service for Sarah “Burton” Clark Shields will be conducted Thursday morning, June 15, 2017, at 11:00 o’clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Greg Heisler and Reverend Bud Russell. Private graveside services will be conducted Saturday, June 17, 2017, in Scotland Neck at the Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday morning, from 9:30 until 11:00 o’clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church Missions Fund, 3505 Bamboo Road, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.
Hampton Funeral and Cremation Service, and Letchworth Funeral Home, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, are in charge of the arrangements.
