Laurie Davis Joyner, 87, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at her home in Oak City.

Laurie was born on December 6, 1929 in Martin County, NC to the late Evans Elliott Davis and Myrtilla Hyman Davis.  A loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, she was devoted to her family and friends.  A longtime member of Oak City Baptist Church, she was very active within the church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.  Laurie was also very active within the Oak City community and led Bible Studies at the Senior Citizens Center.  She worked as the Town Clerk for the Town of Oak City for many years and took care of the Oak City Cemetery until her retirement.  Traveling and time spent with family and friends were her greatest enjoyment.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayland “Dick” Joyner, Jr.

Laurie is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Copeland and husband Wesley of Scotland Neck and Dianne Horgan and husband Al of South Pasadena, FL; her sister, Marie Risso of Delaware; two grandchildren, Clyde Copeland and Meredith Courts; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Oak City Baptist Church, 109 West Second Street, Oak City.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Oak City Cemetery.  The Reverend Lyle Brackin will be presiding.

We are so sorry to hear of Ms. Laurie’s passing. She was a light to us and we enjoyed her visits so much. Thank you for allowing us to serve her. May God give your family the comfort you seek. I know she is rejoicing with your dad. She missed him so much!
