AHOSKIE, NC – Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Pryce, age 96, passed away on August 3, 2017 at the Ahoskie House of Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Pryce was born on March 13, 1921 to Arnette Curtis and Isabelle Fleming Rose in Garland, TN. Doris served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she was a nursing instructor for many years and was given a ten-year humanity award from The Bryan Mawr Hospital for her dedicated service. Doris was a very independent, strong willed woman that spent most of her life taking care of others. She took great pleasure in teaching the Bible. Doris was a loving wife. mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Pryce.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Jayne E. Frei and husband Dr. Tim of Ahoskie, NC, and Nancy Black and husband Jeremy of Silverthorne, CO; one sister, Shirley Sloper of Cape Coral, Fla; two brothers, Clarence Rose and wife Chloe of Gallatin, TN, and Leon Rose of Newport News, Va.; two grandsons, Todd Frei, and J.J. Black; four granddaughters, Alison Frei, Mollie, Jenny B. Macias and husband Nick, and Julie Black McKenzie and husband Sean; great-granddaughter, Olivia Macias; and great-grandson, Cooper Macias.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC, with Antia Thompson, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of her daughter Jayne Frei.

So sorry to hear of Mrs. Pryce’s passing. I enjoyed spending time with her when I worked at Ahoskie House. I remember her talking about going fishing and taking care of a store.
